On the Table: Café pour deux

May 17, 2011

On the table, my life in polaroids, Coffee, Paris

My on going project ‘On the Table’ started with a random shot, while visiting Israel and meeting friends for lunch in one of the most colorful neighborhood in Tel Aviv. I always try that the shot will tell something about the place I am in, location wise and cultural wise but also reflect my state of mind at that moment. I am starting a series of posts and will be a guest blogger for ‘Spotted by Locals’ for the next few months. Hopefully, this project will make it one day to all 41 cities ‘Spotted by Locals’ is covering.

Sit back and relax. Here comes my first one;

I love coffee! In fact, I’m quite addicted to caffeine.

People who know me, will know not to call me in the morning, only after I drink my first cup of coffee (or second). I’m also very specific and quite picky about the way it is made. (Sorry!) This shot was taken in Paris few days ago. I was staying in a friend’s place for six days and tried to live it as Parisians do! My friend, who is also a photographer, made us these two cups of coffees, as a good start for the day. I love the shape of the coffee plate, the way they almost touch each other and the reflection of his living room rug, through the glass table.

Bonjour Paris!

On the table: When life gives you lemon, make lemonade

April 19, 2011

My life in Polaroids, On the table, Tel Aviv, Jaffa

I know there is that sentence ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade’. As for me, I just love to eat the lemons! Just like that. Straight. I am spending the month of April in Tel Aviv, my home town, for a holiday visit and my friends took me to this new Italian restaurant, in the middle of the flea market in Jaffa. It was a Saturday afternoon, the market was closed and the streets were quiet. We were talking about life in Tel Aviv in comparison to life in New York, about the latest Graffiti exhibit that was just opened in Tel Aviv museum (Street Art in a museum?) and how Tel Aviv is getting equipped with street bikes.

The sun was out, I was eating my lemons and catching up with friends was just perfect.

This shot was actually one of the first ones which initiated my on going project ‘On the Table’

Drinking 3 cappuccinos a day with a lot of esfoma, taking the subway to Gran Via, Sol, Banco de Espana. Visiting Museo del Prado, having lunch at Parque de el Retiro, and finding your name carved on a bench. Discovering the joy of Room-mate hotels, going to the green-lime bathrooms at Caixa Forum. Eating fresh Tapas at Plaza de San Miguel market and going back there the next day. Book store at Calle del Pez. Meeting old friends at the rooftop of Circulo de Bellas Artes and watching the sun goes down. Dia Supermarket, Fresh Manchego cheese and red wine. Green Olives, Black Olives, Sea Food as an afternoon snack. Long lines at Palacio Real, Long walk to Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Spotting my NY building apartment in an old photo in one of the exhibits, Talking the stairs to the amazing roof-top. Walking in La Latina neighborhood on Sunday when everything is closed, besides the Rastro Flea Market. Delicious Hot Chocolate and churros at the mythical Chocolateria San Gines, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Villa, Plaza de Cibeles. Following the steps of Don Quijote in Barrio de las Letras. Sweet Sangria in the local Tapas Bar. Templo de Debod during Sunset. Late lunch in Cafe Gijon, Subways stops such as Bilbao, Goya or Rios Rosas, which always made me laugh. Doing all the above without knowing a word in Spanish but Gracias…Priceless!
